Dossett's interest in a theatrical career began at Mount Pleasant High School in Wilmington, Delaware, where he appeared in student productions and was involved with the school's radio station, WMPH. Dossett made his Broadway debut in 1979 in a short-lived musical entitled the King of Schnorrers.
